The Himachal Pradesh High Court has asked District Commissioners from all districts in the state to provide information on the availability of medical facilities in each district, as well as the number of doctors and paramedical staff stationed in each district. A division bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua granted the concerned District Commissioners one week to provide the requested information. The Court also requested information on the number of vacant doctor positions in such districts, as well as the infrastructure facilities, beds, and furniture fittings available in each medical facility in the respective districts. As a result, the case was postponed until August 4. Previously, the Court had sought a response from the State Government on the availability of covid 19 facilities in the State, including ambulances, hospitals, mental health hospitals, and pediatrics facilities for children. It also ordered the State Government to follow the Supreme Court's order from last year by ensuring that CCTV cameras are installed inside covid dedicated hospitals and that the footage is made available to the respective Expert Committee for period observations in dealing with the covid 19 situations.

Analyzing that the scenario may spiral out of control if RTPCR (Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing is not conducted on a war footing, the Court directed the State Government to inform it of the steps it had taken to convert primary health centers into ICU Hospitals with oxygen facilities, as well as to accelerate its work in combating the Covid 19 pandemic. The Court also noted that the state of Himachal Pradesh was experiencing an acute medical crisis as a result of the sudden surge and spread of COVID-19, which had engulfed not only urban areas but also villages. As a result, the Court issued a slew of orders to the respondent authorities.
