"Losing a lion who guarded the judiciary:" On the occasion of Justice Rohinton Nariman's retirement, CJI NV Ramana and the Bar pay respect to him. "Seven years of service is insufficient. For centuries to come, his outstanding genius and integrity will be remembered "Justice Nariman was praised by members of the bar. Justice Rohinton Nariman was showered with admiration and accolades from members of the Bar on his last day as a Supreme Court judge. Justice Nariman sat on the Bench, which was led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and included Justice Surya Kant, as is customary. "The first-ever counsel I briefed in the Supreme Court was Justice RF Nariman...Be it comparative study of religions, Constitutions, or whatever subject, his Lordship's exceptional brilliance and integrity will be remembered for centuries to come," said Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Next up was Senior Advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh. "To be here as President of the Bar when Justice Nariman is here is a privilege. We should be grateful to (former CJI) Justice RM Lodha, who suggested Justice Nariman's name. Seven years is not enough. His term has brought honour..." he remarked. Shivaji Jadhav, President of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), stated, " "Ustice Nariman, a Parsi priest with a Harvard LL.M., would be sorely missed. At the age of 37, then-Chief Justice Venkatachaliah appointed him as a Senior Advocate, and the regulations were revised to reflect this. Justice Nariman has given over 500 recorded judgments, and it is known that once the verdict was reserved, he only took two or three days to dictate the judgement due to his sharpness." Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, a former president of the SCBA, stated, " "e has done an outstanding job for the country and the Constitution. Justice Nariman was the epitome of a fair and caring judge who was equally kind to all counsel and encouraging to the younger members of the bench. I'm sure Justice Nariman taught a lot to younger lawyers..." Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave added, "We thank him from the Supreme Court cafeteria group where he always joined us for coffee." The solemn farewell ceremony for Justice Nariman will take place today at 3:30 p.m. on the Supreme Court lawns.
