In light of the Supreme Court's decision in the Salem Advocate Bar Association case, the Madras High Court is hearing a petition requesting the introduction of case management guidelines for monitoring the progress of cases. The Madras High Court has stated that rules and guidelines set for effective case management may have little impact unless the number of judicial officers, court workers, and court infrastructure improves. (Madras High Court, D Vijayalakshmi v. The Registrar General) In light of the Supreme Court's decision in the Salem Advocate Bar Association case, the bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice PD Audikesavalu was considering a petition requesting the issuance of case management rules for monitoring the progress of cases.

The Court recognised that a lot of progress has been made since then in terms of streamlining and prioritising cases, that guidelines have been issued in various judgements, and that rules have been drafted to govern how cases are handled in court. However, the Court's main focus was improving the status of court facilities as well as the quantity of judicial officers and court workers. "One of the areas that need attention is the judiciary's resources, and recurrent formulation of rules or publication of guidelines may no longer be effective unless and until the number of judicial officers, employees, and other infrastructure is increased," the Court stated.

After making this point, the Court proceeded to dismiss the plea, noting that there are already various case management guidelines in existence. "To some extent, the concern expressed has been addressed in several classes of matters, including commercial suits; there are judicial orders that govern the field in criminal trials; in the circumstances, it may not be necessary to formulate any new set of rules, though the dictum in the cited judgement continues to guide courts throughout the country."
