Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly, Indra Pratap who hailed from Ayodhya has been convicted in a hoax mark sheet case by a special court in Uttar Pradesh. He was subsequently disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Indra Pratap is an alias name for Khabbu Tiwari. Earlier, Indra Pratap was convicted by a special judge Pooja Singh and sentenced to 5 years in jail.
"The prosecution was successful in proving the charges against the accused persons -
1. Kripa Nidhan Tiwari
2. Indra Pratap Tiwari
3. Phool Chandra Yadav under Sections 420, 468, and 47 of the Indian Penal Code.
Thus, the accused are liable to be convicted" the court held. Brief History of the Case -
The court said that Pratap had forged his mark sheet to secure a seat in a college for his BSc course. In 1992, the Principal of the Saket Degree College complained to Pratap alleging that the latter had failed BSc Part 2 examination but took admission in BSc part 3 via a fake mark sheet. The Secretariat of the Assembly notified that Indra Pratap was disqualified from the date of his conviction. Thus, Ayodhya's Gosaiganj seat for Pratap will remain unoccupied.
