BJP MLA Satish Reddy is accused of being involved in the COVID-19 bed scam in Bengaluru. A Bangalore court recently restrained eight media houses as well as Facebook from reporting or publishing any news against Reddy. Newspapers Times Internet Limited, The Printers Mysore Private Limited, Spunklane Media Private Limited, Manipal Media Network Limited, Samyukta Karnataka & Prathidhvani, and Facebook Inc. have all banned the publication of any news about Reddy. Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge Veena M. Naikar of the Court of XL ruled in her order: Ad interim Temporary Injunction: "The defendants are herewith prohibited from publishing, transmitting, showing, disseminating or in any other way allowing circulation of articles, reports, videos, etc. through the internet or television or any other media until they appear in court for a preliminary hearing." He sued media houses including The News Minute, Deccan Herald, and Prathidhwani for defamation, seeking Rs 20 crore in damages.

As a result, his name was not included in the complaint or in the charge sheet, but media outlets portrayed him in a negative light in connection with the bed scam. Affirming Reddy's contentions, the Court held that there is a prima facie case for interim relief. When Tejasvi Surya and other leaders broke into the BBMP COVID-19 war room, they read out names of officials belonging to the Muslim community in an attempt to unearth the alleged bed scam, which had been going on for several months at the time. As COVID-19 cases were on the rise in the State, Surya had alleged that BBMP officials and hospitals were part of an "underground business" where the latter "blocked" beds under false names to make money. COVID-19 patients in Karnataka's capital were deprived of proper medical care and hospital beds, it was alleged. As many as 4,065 beds were allegedly "locked" by hospitals under fictitious names in order to make money. Youth Congress raised serious concerns over the incident, and the officials involved were subsequently suspended.

17 officials were reportedly reinstated in the BBMP war room after their suspension. In connection with the COVID-19 bed scam, the Bengaluru City Police's Central Crime Branch arrested Babu, a BJP MLA's aide, according to media reports.
