Abdul Nazeer was speaking on the 'Decolonisation of the India Legal System' at the 16th National Council meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad. The meeting was held in Hyderabad. Justice S. Abdul Nazeer listed down various constituents of ancient Indian Legal Systems. He started from Vedas. He added that the ancient Indian Law was based on the rule of law and some of its features were immensely revolutionary for the ancient world. In the ancient system, even the king was subject to the law and the king's right to govern was subject to fulfilment of certain duties, which if breached, could lead to forfeiture of kingship. Rules of procedure and evidence were similar to and just as advanced as those followed today, he added.

Decree He spoke on how the disputes were settled keeping in mind the principles of natural justice. He mentioned doctrines that were widespread in ancient Indian Law. Justice Nazeer elaborated on the various types of Indian Legal Systems and their various sources some of them being - Interpretation of law, the law of evidence, etc. He held that despite possessing a rich tradition of a sophisticated legal system, we were imposed with foreign legal systems. Unfortunately, despite obtaining independence in 1947, many of the fundamental aspects of the Indian legal system have remained unchanged since they were introduced and imposed upon us by the British, he added. He argued that every Indian University must include Jurisprudence as a mandatory subject for the LLB degree. Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana too had earlier mentioned that the current legal system is not suitable for the Indian mass.
